Central City Neighborhood Meeting

Sponsored by Central City Renaissance Alliance (CCRA)

September 23, 2006
Saturday 2pm-4pm

at Ashe Cultural Arts Center

BE INFORMED. BE CONNECTED. LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD.

"The Ashé Cultural Arts Center opened its doors almost eight years ago, and now over 50,000 visitors later we are proud to still be here, and blessed to be making a contribution to the re-weaving of the creative, cultural and social fabric of New Orleans," said Carol Bebelle, the Art Center's Co-Director. "We are purchasing our first floor space in the historic Venus Garden Building to assure that the Ashé Cultural Arts Center is not a casualty of Hurricane Katrina or the levee breaches. A national foundation and a partnering local foundation has stepped forward to help make the purchase possible, but we still need the community's support to close the gap between the possibility and the reality."

Advanced tickets for individuals and organizations are available at the Ashé Cultural Arts Center. All proceeds will be donated to the Ashé “High Five” Capitol Campaign Fund.

Katrina Amnesty Campaign for a Faith-Based Forum on Healing and Reconciliation

Join the Katrina Amnesty Campaign for a
Faith-Based Forum on Healing and Reconciliation
on
Tuesday, September 12, 2006
7PM at Ashe' Cultural Center,

1712 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, hundreds of people were arrested for "crimes" related to caring for the basic needs of themselves and their families. New Orleanians with charges such as public intoxication and trespassing spent nearly a year in prison. Some still remain behind bars awaiting charges. Others are out of prison, but still await court appearances. Still others have a conviction on their record—damaging their present and future opportunities for jobs, housing, and education.

In the spirit of healing and reconciliation, the faith community is coming together on Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at 7PM at the Ashe' Cultural Center, 1712 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. (at Euterpe) to discuss a faith-based appeal for forgiveness on behalf of the many New Orleanians whose cases were affected by the storm. Please ask your place of worship, your organization, your school and your community to come and be a part of this dialogue on an important and pressing issue in the New Orleans area. Some of the issues to be discussed include:

Working for amnesty for those who were arrested for taking care of themselves,
Helping those already in the system whose cases were affected by Katrina
Demanding that all records of criminalization be permanently erased
Please join us in our call for healing and reconciliation!
